Father’s Day Gifts

Category : unusual gifts

Buying the best Father’s Day gifts can be a great thing to do as it tells your father that you care. Some of the popular gifts are trinkets or things that your father won’t need. In order to get something your father likes, it is important for you to know your father.
One thoughtful present (this applies to his birthday as well) to get your father is something that is related to his hobby. If your father has a hobby then it will be easier for you to pick the gift as you will have some ideas to start with. My father is a collector of things like coins and scrimshaw work. So when this special occasion approaches, I know what to get him such as some collectible coins, some scrimshaw or books and tools related to his hobby. Buying these items can be difficult too as my knowledge on coins and scrimshaws are just at the basic level. Thus it is sometimes good to read reviews online about this field before you head to the shop.
So, one Father’s Day I bought him something more personalized instead of the items listed above. I bought him a set of carving tools, some fake ivory and a book on making your very own scrimshaw. When he opened his father’s day gift, he wasn’t sure what to do with those things but after a minute or two, he grinned. It was a sign that he loved his gift. I had always heard him talk about making his own scrimshaw so I took that opportunity to buy the tools for him. I wasn’t sure that my dad would do it after the absence of his scrimshaw work when I visit him. But then again, my father isn’t the show off type. Maybe he tried carving the scrimshaw but consider not good enough to show off. That is just the way my father is.
The last visit home, I was surprised to see a whole display case filled with attractive carvings and wooden photo frames. My mother told me that my father has become obsessed over his new hobby. It turns out that my father only wanted to show his work after a full display case of scrimshaw! I am happy and glad that I managed to get some thoughtful Father’s Day gifts.
